DEST Analytical Snapshots

DEST Analytical Snapshots are intended to provide easy-to-read quick reference guides to current research, in a standard format.

The DEST Analytical Snapshots will be a continuing series which will provide a succinct overview of key research and policy information; and provide an easily accessible source of key research about major issues related to education, science and training.

An overview of adult literacy and numeracy skills in Australia, based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Survey of Aspects of Literacy 1996.

Women participate more than men and achieve equally in education and training, but they earn less
Women participate more than men and achieve equally in education and training, but they earn less’ summarises current research on women’s position in education and the labour market.  This Snapshot highlights the fact that women’s participation in all levels of education has increased over the past 30 years, but that women graduates still earn less than men.  There is still considerable gender imbalance in terms of fields of study.
