Women participate more than men and achieve equally in education and training, but they earn less

Abstract

Women participate more than men and achieve equally in education and training, but they earn less’ summarises current research on women’s position in education and the labour market.  This Snapshot highlights the fact that women’s participation in all levels of education has increased over the past 30 years, but that women graduates still earn less than men.  There is still considerable gender imbalance in terms of fields of study.

It is part of a series of DEST Analytical Snapshots summarising current research on key issues in an easy-to-access format.  The Snapshots cover aspects of adult literacy, women’s participation in education and work, and young people’s transition from education to work.  Further fact sheets in the Snapshot series are under development.
