Online Curriculum Content

The Le@rning Federation  You are now leaving the DEST website   is a collaboration between the Australian Government, states and territories and New Zealand to support the development of online curriculum resources, services and applications. The Australian Government is providing $60 million over the eight years
2001-02 to 2008-09.

To date this initiative has provided a pool of over 4,500 quality assured online curriculum resources supporting national consistency in key curriculum areas such as Literacy for Students at Risk; Mathematics and Numeracy; Science; Languages Other Than English; Studies of Australia; Business and enterprise and Arts, design and technology. These materials are being made freely available to all Australian schools.

The Le@rning Federation is also working with Australian cultural institutions such as the National Library, the National Film and Sound Archive, art galleries and science museums to facilitate schools online access to cultural treasures.

Recent research undertaken by Professor Freebody indicates that across Australia teachers find these innovative resources an engaging and effective way to support learning in the classroom. In particular, they are useful to help explain difficult concepts to students. Preliminary analysis of a small study into classroom practice and the impact of selected mathematics learning objects on learning outcomes of Year 5 and Year 7 students indicates a statistically reliable advantage in learning outcomes relating to Chance at both year levels for the group using learning objects.

To complement the development of these resources, TLF has developed a standardised environment for both the technical and educational specifications to allow the sharing of these resources across jurisdictions.

Schools can access these innovative online resources by contacting the appropriate Contact Liaison Officer in their state or territory. Contact details can be found at The Le@rning Federation website You are now leaving the DEST website  .
