Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Professional Learning

The Australian Government recognises the importance of improving the understanding and use of ICT by teachers so that educators and learners are able to gain maximum benefit from the information superhighway.

Key initiatives to support teachers and teacher educators:

  • The Australian Government Quality Teacher Programme (AGQTP) is the Australian Government’s flagship initiative for improving the quality of school teaching and leadership in Australia.  One of the programme’s objectives is to equip teachers with the skills and knowledge needed for teaching in the 21st century, including support for the innovative use of ICT as an enabler for teaching and learning across the curriculum.

  • The Partnerships in ICT Learning (PICTL) Project supports a number of pilots, one in each state and territory, to develop, trial and evaluate forms of partnerships between universities, systems (government and non-government) and schools.  The objective is to demonstrate good practice approaches to embedding ICTs throughout the educational experience of student teachers, practising teachers and teacher educators.  Find out the latest news at the Partnerships in Information and Communication Technology Learning project website  You are now leaving the DEST website  .

  • The Success for Boys Initiative aims to improve learning outcomes for boys across Australia, with the Australian Government providing funding of $19.4 million.  The overarching purpose of the project is to embed effective teaching practices through the delivery of a series of professional learning modules.  The modules address three key intervention areas, including one with a focus on the use of ICT as a means of improving the engagement of boys in active learning.  Find out more or apply for a grant at the Success for Boys project website  You are now leaving the DEST website  .
