This acknowledgement will confirm the school’s eligibility for funding and will indicate whether the Department agrees to reimburse a school for the cost of purchasing and installing a flagpole and affixing the required plaque to the pole. Schools should wait for confirmation of their eligibility before purchasing a flagpole.

The FFI operates on a reimbursement basis. Schools must submit an application form and should await confirmation of their eligibility for funding before purchasing a flagpole.

Once the flagpole is purchased and installed, eligible schools need to submit all required financial documentation to obtain reimbursement of their costs. Schools are reminded that a maximum of $1,500 will be reimbursed under this Initiative.

Schools that were successful in obtaining funding for projects under the FFI must acknowledge Australian Government assistance by:

  • Displaying a plaque; and
  • Issuing publicity through the school newsletter or web site, and any other form of advertising available to the school.

The maximum funding for the flagpole and the plaque is $1,500 GST exclusive. Schools will be reimbursed once the Department has received the following documents and information:

  • A completed Flagpole Funding Initiative – Claim for Reimbursement PDF  PDF Document  (28.4 KB) | RTF  RTF  (37.9 KB).This form requires details including the BSB, account number and details of the bank where the reimbursement is to be paid. The school principal and one other authorised person connected with the school will be required to verify that the nominated bank account belongs to the school.

  • An original tax invoice, GST exclusive, on school letterhead, made out to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (ABN 63 578 775 294), for the cost of supply and installation of the flagpole and the plaque, or for the cost of repairs to an existing flagpole, as applicable. This is important.  Reimbursement cannot be paid until the Department receives a correct tax invoice.

  • Copies of the supplier invoice and the receipt for payment.

  • A copy of the school newsletter or letter to parents advising of the purchase and installation, or repair, of the flagpole.

  • For new flagpoles, confirmation that a plaque with the required wording is now installed.

Invoices that do not meet the above requirements will not be accepted.

  • All of the above documents should be provided to the Department in one package.
  • Reimbursement cannot proceed until the Department receives all of the above documentation.
  • Funds will be deposited into the school's nominated bank account.
