NSW : Family Action Centre, University of Newcastle, 1995

Description A workshop program consisting of full day and half-day workshops designed to assist schools in strengthening boys educational outcomes. Organised by the Boys in Schools Program, University of Newcastle. Topics covered include: Planning for a whole school approach to educating boys, Boys’ and literacy, Boys, behaviour and positive relationships, Boys loving learning, Boys, school structures and the community and Engaging fathers in educating boys. In addition to shorter workshops the centre also offers 6 to 12 month school-based gender related programs.
Target market Primary teachers, secondary teachers
Purpose and/or Outcomes The purpose of the programmes is to recognise and capitalise on the strengths of teachers, community members and schools to enhance boy’s outcomes. and then to make changes to the school culture and individuals perception to enable a better outcome for boys.
Possible Applications Professional development programmes/workshops for teachers. Can be used to develop a whole school approach to gender issues or on a faculty or sub-school basis focusing on a specific issues
