This professional development resource is a NSW program designed to “…to assist schools in implementing Girls and Boys at School: Gender Equity Strategy 1996-2001. It is made up of five sessions entitled: (1) gender equity – examining the issues, (2) girls and boys at school – the 5 year strategy, (3) the gender climate – gathering and analysing data, (4) gender inclusive teaching strategies and (5) extending ourselves. The program, in the words of the introduction, is designed to facilitate collaborative inquiry through:
- challenging teachers’ knowledge and understanding of equity issues
- providing the opportunities for shared and negotiated learning
- creating a community of learners through sharing experiences and expertise
- providing staff with the opportunity to investigate gender issues within the context of classroom practice, using the expertise of staff within a school
- identifying a context of learning and building a point of reference for future staff development
