Details The action plan for girls’ education was developed under the auspices of the Australian Education Council and it represents a practical addition to the 1987 National Policy for the Education of Girls.
Description The publication is intended to “encourage direct action in such areas as curriculum, girls’ classroom experiences, the behaviour and attitudes of males towards females, and the changes to the social, physical and cultural environments in which girls learn”. To achieve the above, teachers are provided with a series of key strategies, questions for schools and achievement indicators in areas such as: examining the construction of gender, eliminating sex-based harassment, improving educational outcomes of girls and reforming the curriculum.
Target market The publication is directed at primary and secondary school teachers and school administrators.
Purpose and/or Outcomes Desired outcome is to provide teachers and schools with professional development support to assist in developing gender inclusive teaching practices, especially in relation to girls.
Possible Applications Focus questions can be used to assist in developing whole school approaches to gender equity.
