Advancing Australia's Languages: overview report: evaluation of the Commonwealth School Languages Programme

This report presents findings from an evaluation of the Commonwealth School Languages Programme conducted in 1997.  The evaluation covers the three programme elements: the National Asian Languages and Studies in Australian Schools (NALSAS) Strategy, Community Languages and Priority Languages.


Abstract

The objectives of the evaluation were to assess: Achievement of and progress towards delivering positive outcomes against programme objectives, including the extent to which Commonwealth input is fostering proficiency in languages; the extent to which structures and framework facilitate positive outcomes; the objectives of each component of the Languages Programme with a view to considering their continued appropriateness; and the role and effectiveness of the Asia Education Foundation (AEF) and Language Australia in meeting the programme objectives.
