It also has a strong education component with a focus on producing graduates with skills relevant to industry needs.

The Research Quality Framework is an Australian Government initiative to recognise and reward high quality and high impact research from 2008.

Through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), the Australian Government is providing $542 million over 2005-2011 to provide researchers with major research facilities, supporting infrastructure and networks necessary for world-class research.

National Research Priorities enhance the quality and impact of our research effort by building critical mass in these areas and by promoting collaboration between research organisations and with industry.
