Boosting Innovation, Science, Technology and Mathematics Teaching
is about fostering innovation in schools and developing the innovative capacities of students, by promoting high-calibre teaching that engages students.
The Australian Government is providing a total of $38.8 million over seven years to 2010–11 for improvements recommended by its independent Review of Teaching and Teacher Education. The review concluded that: ‘Developing greater scientific awareness in the general population, inspiring more young people to take up careers that depend on excellence in science, technology and mathematics, and building a culture of innovation in Australia’s schools are of the utmost importance if Australia and its people are to be successful in a global world’.
The steps being taken will help teachers and students achieve that bright future and realise Australia’s potential as a knowledge-based society and economy.
