On Friday 22nd October, the Prime Minister announced that, from 1 July 2005, the responsibilities and functions of the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) would be transferred to the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST).
ANTA and DEST have committed to work together to ensure functions are transferred to DEST in a smooth manner that is respectful to ANTA staff and is as seamless as possible to clients. The way we are working together is set out on our information page.

There are three streams of activity involved in transferring ANTA responsibilities to the Department.
- the transfer of ANTA business functions
- the transfer of ANTA corporate functions
- establishing new arrangements for VET in Australia to operate from 1 July 2005.
Information on the transition process will be posted on this area of the Intranet so that DEST staff can keep up to date with the project.
