New higher education qualification - the associate degree
10 October 2003
A new higher education qualification --- the associate degree --- is now part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
A guideline
has been issued for the two-year qualification, which will parallel the existing vocational education and training qualifications of diploma and advanced diploma.
It will be able to be offered by universities and also by TAFEs and private providers who gain higher education accreditation to deliver an associate degree. It’s expected that some associate degree courses will be available to students from early next year.
The AQF Advisory Board, in consultation with ANTA, is monitoring the new qualification’s financial impact on the VET and higher ed sectors, as well as industry’s view on how it affects National Training Package qualifications.
