ANTA MINCO on Training Package review
11 June 2004
We have today endorsed improvements to national Training Packages that will support VET practitioners in improving outcomes for learners.
For students, employees, and employers the improvements will mean that training is more in touch with what’s happening in workplaces and more flexible to meet their needs.
The improvements follow a high level review over the past 18 months, which has found support for the Training Package model but a need for improvements to bring them up-to-date with the evolving needs of students, apprentices, employers and communities, and the need for better support for teachers and trainers.
We have approved a three-year work plan, with the following priorities for the next six months:
- gaining more practitioner and equity input into the development and review of packages that would benefit from their expertise.
- answering employers’ calls for generic and ’employability’ skills - like communication and working with others - in all Training Packages.
- more public and employer information about the value of statements of attainment, to encourage learners to undertake shorter relevant skill development.
Longer-term improvements will include:
Better support for practitioners and registered training organisations to increase flexible delivery and assessment
Industry defined prevocational training to improve entry and progression through VET
Greater flexibility in Training Package qualifications
Raising public awareness of the value of statements of attainment
Increasing debate and national discussion around teaching, learning and assessment practices.
