ANTA appoints interim CEO
12 August 2004
The Australian National Training Authority has appointed former ANTA general manager Paul Byrne as interim chief executive officer.
ANTA Board chair David Hind says Mr Byrne will fill the position for up to six months.
“Mr Byrne’s appointment will allow the organisation to continue its work while the Board undertakes the process of identifying and appointing a new CEO,” Mr Hind says.
“This process will commence shortly.”
Mr Byrne retired as ANTA general manager in February 2003, after six years with the authority and a long history in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. He has been actively involved in the major reforms of the VET sector over the past decade and played an instrumental role in creating the current national training framework.
After leaving ANTA in 2003, he continued his involvement in the VET sector as a board member of TAFE Tasmania and, more recently, a director of the new Innovation and Business Industry Skills Council. Mr Byrne began his career as an electronics engineer, worked in teaching and administration in TAFE and was a senior official with the Australian Education Union before joining ANTA.
Mr Byrne’s appointment follows the resignation of former CEO Janina Gawler in July.
