Cutting edge salon shows national training style
14 October 2004
A local hairdressing salon that believes training is the key ingredient to ongoing business success is in line for a national training award.
Launceston’s Ahead In Time Hair Studio, winner of the 2004 TASTA Small Business of the Year Award, is now a finalist in the Prime Minister’s Small Business of the Year category of the 2004 Australian Training Awards to be held in Melbourne next month.
The salon provides a career path for all employees with continuous opportunities for professional development and personal growth. Ongoing training ensures employees are stimulated, challenged and fulfilled in their career.
“We believe the market and technology is constantly changing,” said manager Wendy Rigby. “Education and training must be a life long pursuit to ensure customer expectations are not only met but exceeded.”
According to ANTA chairman, David Hind, the key to becoming internationally competitive is recognition by employers that training is absolutely critical to achieving success.
“Employers like Ahead in Time are setting the standard in on-the-job training, and are reaping the rewards as a result,” said Mr Hind.
National organisational honours are also up for grabs in the coveted Small Training Provider of the Year Award, to be contested this year by Hobart’s Jenard Training and Personnel.
In the student categories, four Tasmanians will be flying the flag at the awards. Launceston’s David Ringsgwandl and Ryan Manktelow, plus Dianne Cook of Mangalore and Jodie Mather of Lauderdale are all in the running for national titles.
The 2004 Australian Training Awards will be held at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne on Thursday, 18 November 2004. The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of apprentices, trainees and students as well as the contribution of enterprises and training providers to skilling Australia.
The Australian Training Awards are hosted by the Australian National Training Authority and supported by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training.
