Niche trainer with industry focus gets national nod
14 October 2004
The national search for Australia’s best small training provider is underway and a niche training provider that’s focused on the needs of local industry, is in the running.
Hobart’s Jenard Training and Personnel is a finalist in the Small Training Provider of the Year category of the 2004 Australian Training Awards to be held in Melbourne next month.
In business for 13 years, Jenard with a staff of only six, trains around 450 students per year across Tasmania in the small business, pharmacy, retail and tourism sectors.
Jenard’s success is largely due to a focus on aligning training with client needs and expectations.
“Much of Jenard’s success stems from the fact that the business itself grew from the industries it serves, and has never divorced itself from those industries,” said Manager, Gerry Fitzgibbon.
According to ANTA chairman, David Hind, Australia’s key to keeping ahead of international competitors is world-class training providers who meet the skill needs of businesses and individuals.
“Providers like Jenard Training and Personnel are breaking new ground in delivering quality training when, how and where businesses, students and the community want it,” said Mr Hind.
National organisational honours are also up for grabs in the coveted Prime Minister’s Small Business of the Year Award, to be contested this year by Launceston’s Ahead in Time Hair Studio.
In the student categories, four Tasmanians will be flying the flag at the awards. Launceston’s David Ringsgwandl and Ryan Manktelow, plus Dianne Cook of Mangalore and Jodie Mather of Lauderdale are all in the running for national titles.
The 2004 Australian Training Awards will be held at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne on Thursday, 18 November 2004. The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of apprentices, trainees and students as well as the contribution of enterprises and training providers to skilling Australia.
The Australian Training Awards are hosted by the Australian National Training Authority and supported by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training.
