23 November 2004
An Adelaide manufacturer that aligns training to business objectives has won a major award at the 2004 Australian Training Awards.
ACI Glass Packaging, based in the Adelaide suburb of West Croydon and affiliated with one of the largest glass manufacturing and plastics packaging companies in the world, was named the Large Employer of the Year in a ceremony at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne tonight.
The judges applauded ACI Glass Packaging for linking and tracking training outcomes to organisational improvements in quality, safety and productivity.
Desmond Brown, human resources manager for ACI Glass Packaging, said the company provided an opportunity for all employees to work towards obtaining national qualifications.
“Quality training is paramount; it enables our employees to provide the world-class service experience our customers expect. Well trained people with the right service focused attitude are the life blood of our business.”
According to ANTA chairman, David Hind, the key to becoming internationally competitive is recognition by employers that training is absolutely critical to achieving success.
“Employers such as ACI Glass Packaging are setting the standard in on-the-job training, and are reaping the rewards as a result,” Mr Hind said.
ACI Glass Packaging was one of three South Australian winners at the national awards ceremony. River Murray Training, a niche training provider headquartered in Berri, won the Small Training Provider of the Year Award and Adelaide mechanical engineer Brad Donaldson was named New Apprenticeships Apprentice of the Year.
The Australian Training Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of apprentices, trainees and students as well as the contribution of enterprises and training providers to skilling Australia.
The awards are hosted by the Australian National Training Authority and supported by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training.
