National training upgrade for timber industry
26 August 2004
A move is underway to update and upgrade the training available to Australia’s multi-million dollar timber industry.
The Australian National Training Authority is consulting forest and forest product employers and employees nationally on how existing forest and forest products training can be improved to boost safety and productivity. The review of the current Forest and Forest Products Training Package will take around 12 months.
ANTA Board chair David Hind says the review started earlier this month and national consultation forums are being scheduled so all stakeholders from the industry and the training system can provide their input.
“ANTA is now taking submissions on all aspects of the Training Package. We are also looking to boost industry investment in training to improve skills, productivity and safety,” he says.
“Our new network of industry skills councils is driving this investment across other industry sectors. The forestry industry is yet to join the network. ANTA continues to work with national forestry organisations to negotiate their membership in the interests of employers, employees and regional and national economies.”
