All state and territory training authorities collect an agreed common set of information from RTOs. This nationally consistent information is referred to as the VET Provider Collection. The AVETMIS Standard for VET Providers
was developed to ensure that this information is collected consistently and accurately by each state and territory training authority. The Standard provides guidelines and defines the data files, data elements and code values which are to be used when reporting.
In addition to the common set of information collected by all state and territory training authorities, most state and territory training authorities generally require additional information. This information assists them to manage their training contracts, report how government funding has been used and report on state/territory specific policy initiatives. States and territories collect this information in conjunction with the VET Provider Collection information to reduce the number of times an RTO must report.
At present, these differences in state/territory reporting requirements may make reporting more difficult for RTOs which operate in multiple states or territories. This is because the information provided to one state/ territory training authority may not satisfy the requirements of another. Please contact a state/ territory training authority for advice on the best way to manage your reporting requirements. Work recently undertaken has addressed this issue and in the future RTOs will be able to provide a report in a standardised format to any state or territory. However, until the necessary changes are implemented, RTOs must supply all their information in the format requested by each state or territory training authority to which they report.
