In May 2002, new standards, clearer goals and new funding arrangements for group training were agreed following a national review led by ANTA and involving group training practitioners, industry peak bodies and government.
The new arrangements discussed in the review’s Report of the National Review of Group Training
are designed to:
- strengthen quality and the reputation of group training organisations
- provide more consistency for employers across the country
- increase quality apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities, and
- make government funding of GTOs more equitable and transparent.
The arrangements comprise a new joint state/ territory and Australian Government funding system, national quality standards, a new definition and new goals for group training.
A resources handbook has been developed to support the introduction of the standards.
The new national standards are not compulsory. However, those GTOs which meet the national standards receive a listing on the official Group Training National Register
and can display the official Group Training logo.
Under the arrangements, the governments' Joint Group Training Program funding
is available only to GTOs that meet these standards. Joint funding focuses on targeted outcomes for priority areas, such as disadvantaged groups, rather than providing general recurrent funding.
