Nine professional development projects have been initiated to assist vocational education and training (VET) staff to address equity issues and employment outcomes for Indigenous Australians and people with a disability.
A total of $2 million has been allocated to the following projects:
Training and Assessment Training Package – new resources will be developed to support equity issues in the delivery of the Training and Assessment (TAA) Training Package.
Research and evaluation - will monitor activities and outcomes over a three-year period and evaluate changes in professional development practices relating to training people with a disability.
Work-based learning – Making the Connections was published to show ways to progress equity in the national VET system.
Training for providers of industry advice – data has been prepared for a training program for Industry Skills Councils on how to integrate disability and Indigenous issues into their strategic planning processes.
AQTF – three guides were developed to help registered training organisations (RTOs) and auditors meet equity requirements under the AQTF: Working with Diversity: A Guide to Equity and the AQTF, Working with Diversity: Quality Training for Indigenous Australians, and Working with Diversity: Quality Training for People with a Disability.
Flexible learning – a CD-ROM containing findings of the Access and Equity in Online Learning
project was developed and widely distributed.
Skills audit of Indigenous staff in RTOs - will provide funding for recognition of prior learning (RPL)/ recognition of current competence (RCC) for Indigenous VET practitioners.
Indigenous training award winners – Indigenous training award winners in each state and territory will speak to VET delivery staff, Indigenous students and communities about what made their training experience successful, what could have made it better, and the benefits of VET.
