Nominations NOW OPEN for the 2008 Australian Apprenticeships Roundtable

The Australian Apprenticeships Roundtable is a forum for Australian Apprentices (including trainees) to identify and discuss training related issues and share their experiences of the vocational education and training system. Nominations are now being sought for the 2008 Australian Apprenticeships Roundtable.
Australian Apprentices of all ages and experience are encouraged to apply, however potential applicants will need to meet the following criteria:

  • currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, an Australian Apprenticeship (or traineeship);
  • keen to improve the apprenticeship system for others;
  • committed for the full term of the Roundtable;
  • sensitive to the cultures and aspirations of others; and
  • aware of current issues facing Australian Apprentices.

Applications must be received by COB 4 April 2008 for consideration.

Get the recognition you deserve at the 2008 Australian Training Awards

The Australian Training Awards are the culmination of each state and territory training awards. This year, the Australian Training Awards will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre on 20 November.

If you are a top Australian Apprentice (including trainees and Australian School-based Apprentices), vocational student, small business, school, small or large training provider or an employer who is making people take notice of your training, why not apply to your state and territory training awards?

Applications NOW OPEN for the 2008 Minister’s Awards for Excellence

Are you an employer doing great things with your apprenticeships training?
Is your Australian Apprenticeships program helping build your business?
Do you want to get recognised as an employer of choice?

Then why not enter the 2008 Minister’s Awards for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprentices.  The awards recognise outstanding achievements and best practice in the training of apprentices and trainees in 22 regions across Australia. Each regional winner receives $5000 prize money, a certificate and trophy, and return travel and accommodation to attend the gala Minister’s Awards presentation and dinner in the Great Hall of Parliament House on 4 September 2008.

2008 Fulbright Professional Scholarship

Chris Ainsworth, Executive Officer of the Risk and Emergency Management Education Centre (raemec) and a Project Consultant to Swinburne University, has won the 2008 Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Vocational Education and Training (VET) sponsored by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. This Scholarship was established in 1995 to support the exchange of research and ideas in VET between Australia and the United States.

Through his Fulbright Scholarship, Chris will undertake research with the City of Austin’s Office of Emergency Management and the City of Dallas’ Office of Emergency Management, on a project to increase professional respect between full time and volunteer emergency management staff through equitable access to training. He plans to undertake his six months research from June 2008.
Chris is one of 24 talented Australians to be recognised as a Fulbright Scholar in 2008.  To find out more about Chris and the Fulbright Scholarship visit http://www.fulbright.com.au/. Applications for Fulbright Scholarships in 2009 open on 1 June.

Professional Development Workshops for Business Services Training Package

Innovation and Business Skills Australia (ISBA) was overwhelmed by the response to its NSW BSB07 professional development workshops. IBSA now is inviting participants from other states and territories to register to participate in the program which comprises four separate workshops including an overview and 3 specialist workshops.  These workshops are scheduled to be held in each state and territory. 2008 ACIVC Annual Conference

The Australian Council of Independent Vocational Colleges invites you to be part of its conference in Sydney on 27 June 2008.  The conference has been planned to provide you with up to date information on recent changes, new legislation and emerging trends impacting on Australian education and training. 

Researchers, experts from industry, government representatives, policy makers, academia and other interested parties interested in presenting at the conference are invited to submit abstracts by COB 31 March 2008.
