A committee comprising chief executive officers (CEOs) of state and territory training authorities meets with the Australian Government and ANTA to discuss issues of common interest and concern and to consider implications of proposals before they are considered by the ANTA Board and MINCO.
The committee also works to increase cooperation between state and territory vocational education and training systems. The CEOs individually provide advice to their respective ministers on significant aspects of the national VET system.
On 22 October 2004 the Prime Minister announced that ANTA would be abolished and its functions would be brought into the Department of Education, Science and Training from 1 July 2005. A Ministerial Council on Vocational Education will be established to ensure continued harmonisation of a national system of standards, assessment and accreditation with goals agreed in a Commonwealth-State Funding Agreement.
