The Industry Training Strategies Programme (ITSP) funds projects that help employers to more fully understand nationally endorsed training packages. It has a particular emphasis on increasing pathways for Australian Apprentices.
There are four classifications of ITSP providers.
Industry Pathfinder
These providers help industry to find quality vocational, education and training solutions to their recruitment and training needs. Their services include advice, assistance, research and promotional activities that help Australian Apprenticeship Centres and Registered Training Organisations to implement Australian Apprenticeships and training packages. Industry Pathfinders also engage with industry associations and other stakeholders to support the achievement of ITSP’s aims.
Integrated Information Service
These providers support Australian Apprenticeship Centres and Registered Training Organisations. The integrated information they provide helps to increase the uptake of Australian Apprenticeships, and increase awareness of the flexibilities available under Australian Apprenticeships.
Education and Training Adviser
Education and Training Advisers work through peak industry associations to increase their members’ understanding of vocational, education and training issues, particularly the National Training Framework, Australian Apprenticeships and training packages, with the ultimate goal of improving employer take-up of Australian Apprenticeships. Using a variety of techniques (such as visits, meetings, newsletters and promotions) these advisers provide a ‘translation’ service, making use of their knowledge of industry and the different elements of the training system to help employers achieve their training goals, while also promoting the Australian Government’s vocational, education and training priorities. These advisers also assist in providing industry advice to Government on vocational, education and training issues affecting their membership.
Indigenous
Indigenous providers offer advice, assistance, research, training tools and promotional activities to peak employer associations, vocational, education and training organisations, Australian Apprenticeship Centres, Registered Training Organisations, and Indigenous agencies and communities. These services help to support and expand Indigenous people’s participation in formal and nationally recognised training programmes, specifically Australian Apprenticeships and training packages. ‘Indigenous Australians’ means people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who identify as such and are accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived.
