Scholarships, awards and prizes relating to training and skills

The Department of Education, Science and Training administers the following awards and prizes relating to training and skills.

Australian Training Awards are presented each year in two categories - students and organisations. Awards are also made to industry. Awards for 2005 were announced in November 2005.

The Minister’s Awards for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprentices  You are now leaving the DEST website  recognise and reward employers who demonstrate best practice approaches to their training of Australian Apprentices. Awards for 2005 were announced in August.  

The Minister’s Award for Excellence in Australian Apprenticeships Centre Administration  You are now leaving the DEST website  recognises the outstanding achievements of an individual working for an Australian Apprenticeships Centre who has consistently demonstrated and maintained outstanding practices working with Australian Apprenticeships. Awards for 2005 were announced in August.

The Australian Vocational Student Prize (AVSP) recognises Year 12 students who demonstrate exceptional skill, commitment and achievement while undertaking an Australian School-based Apprenticeship or a Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools programme. Students are nominated for the prize by their school principal.

Under Endeavour Scholarships students from eligible countries in the Asia-Pacific region can undertake vocational and technical education at a Diploma or Advanced Diploma level at an Australian institution (public and private providers). These awards will showcase Australia’s vocational and technical education sector to an international audience. Endeavour VTE Awards will provide formal qualifications for new and existing workers, and the opportunity for participants to learn new technologies and methods of working. The awards are open to all fields of study.
