Industry Skills Report: Manufacturing

This report analyses the available data, research and market intelligence about manufacturing industry skill needs, and identifies national and industry issues and trends. The report then offers a range of high-level strategies to address future skills and workforce development requirements. The coverage of the report aligns with that of the Manufacturing Industry Skills Council (Manufacturing Skills Australia).

Abstract

The Manufacturing Industry Skills Report considers the sectors of light manufacturing (ie textiles, clothing and footwear and furnishing), process manufacturing and metals/engineering and related manufacturing. The report profiles employment and training (including Training Packages and Australian Apprenticeships) within the industry, before examining the effects of four major drivers of industry skill needs. These drivers are participation (including the influence of demographic change), market pressures (including globalisation), technological changes and regulatory compliance (occupational health and safety and environmental issues).

The report offers five workforce development strategies for addressing industry skills needs and gives examples of suggested steps towards achieving each of the recommended strategies.
