Australian National Training Authority What is ANTA? The Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) is an Australian Government statutory authority with an industry-based Board. ANTA was established under the Australian National Training Authority Act 1992 to provide a national focus for vocational education and training (VET). ANTA began operations in 1994 and has offices in Brisbane and Melbourne with a combined staff of around 80. What does ANTA do? ANTA is an administrator and an adviser, reporting to a nine-member Board. It works closely with governments, industry and other stakeholders to provide advice to the Ministerial Council of Australian, state and territory government ministers responsible for vocational education and training (ANTA MINCO) on: >> VET policy, strategy, priorities, goals and objectives nationally; and >> VET plans which states and territories develop each year. These plans detail how states and territories propose to meet national priorities, goals and objectives. ANTA administers national programs and the Australian Government's funding for the national VET system. Who heads ANTA? The ANTA Board is chiefly people from business and industry. Members are nominated by ANTA MINCO and appointed by the Governor-General.
