A fair go for everyone: making training equitable Achieving equitable outcomes is one of the national objectives of the vocational education and training (VET) system. Among the groups who face particular disadvantage are: >> people with a disability >> Indigenous Australians >> women >> people from non-English speaking backgrounds, and >> people in rural and remote areas. Taking action Australia has VET strategies to help give people who face disadvantage a "fair go" in training. >> Shaping our Future, Australia's National Strategy for VET 2004-2010, which includes a strategy to take positive steps to achieve equality of participation and achievement >> Bridging Pathways aims to increase opportunities for people with a disability in VET >> Partners in a Learning Culture aims to increase opportunities for Indigenous people in VET >> Women: Shaping our Future aims to help Australian women get more and better skills and jobs. Taking advice Two advisory bodies provide specialist advice to the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) Board, and through the Board to Australian, state, and territory ministers for VET. They are the Australian Disability Training Advisory Council (ADTAC) and the Australian Indigenous Training Advisory Council (AITAC). AITAC and ADTAC: >> facilitate implementation of the Blueprints for implementing the strategies by working with everyone involved >> monitor progress of the Blueprints and advising the ANTA Board of emerging issues >> lead debate and promoting understanding of the issues.
