Partners in training Industry and registered training organisations (RTO) around the country are forming a new style of partnership that is helping both sets of partners become more competitive in their field. What is a partnership? It's where the partners, often an RTO and an enterprise or industry organisation, enter a relationship that benefits both of them. Successful relationships usually: >> involve sharing resources and information >> have clear, agreed goals and >> are focused on longer-term outcomes. Why be a partner? The benefits of partnership for RTOs include: >> a raised business and community profile for training providers >> incentive to become more flexible and innovative to meet partners' needs >> opportunities for staff development. What services can be the basis of a partnership? An RTO can help its partner: >> with managing training - the paperwork, finding what they need, providing what they need >> with planning training - linking it to business strategy, identifying skill needs >> as an agent - making connections and sourcing public funds. How do we find a partner? Partnerships often begin when enterprises with specialised training needs seek out an RTO. RTOs need to be aware of their specialist skills and knowledge, what services they can provide, and be prepared and equipped to be innovative and flexible. By knowing what they have to offer, RTOs can then seek out partners. How do we make a partnership succeed? There are risks for each partner but planning helps minimise their impact.
