VET - who's who? The Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) is an Australian Government statutory authority established in 1992 to provide a national focus for vocational education and training (VET). The ANTA Board is made up chiefly of people from business and industry. They are: >> David Hind, chair; managing director of BOC, process gas solutions, South Pacific >> Stella Axarlis, AM, deputy chair >> Leonie Clyne, managing director and owner of Angus Clyne Australia Pty Ltd >> Julius Roe, national president of the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union >> John Smyth, chief executive officer of the Institute of TAFE Tasmania >> Noel Pearson, director of the Cape York Institute for Policy and Leadership >> Linda Heron, general manager, learning and development, with retailer Coles Myer Ltd >> Brendan Crotty, managing director of Australand Holdings Ltd. The ANTA Board advises the ANTA Ministerial Council (ANTA MINCO). MINCO is comprised of all the Australia, state, and territory ministers for VET. Syd Stirling, MLA States and territories Each state and territory has a training agency that administers VET within its jurisdiction, including registering training organisations and accrediting courses. Industry advice Industry advisory bodies provide information about industry training needs, develop training products, and promote training within their industry area. A network of 10 national industry skills councils is currently being established to partner with government and industry to build the skills of the Australian workforce. Visit for a diagram.
