National VET Equity Advisory Taskforce "Student Experience" Roundtable

Key findings from the National VET Equity Advisory Taskforce "Student Experience" Roundtable in Sydney 2007

Abstract

The ‘Student Experience’ roundtable was the second stage of the Equity Advisory Taskforce research into the key issues for students undertaking training in the vocational education and training (VET) system.  Approximately 55 participants attended, mainly students across the five target equity demographics and some employers and training providers.  The Roundtable was held on Monday 23 July 2007, at Kogarah TAFE in Sydney NSW to test the themes which had emerged from the earlier Student Experience focus groups. The key issues raised included the:

  • status of VET;
  • quality of teaching;
  • recognition of qualifications; and
  • transitions, from school to VET and VET to work, including increased support for students after VET course completions.
