Training Talk - May 2002 - Issue 1

Training Talk is the new name for the online publication Training and Youth online.

After the federal election in November last year, the Prime Minister announced changes to the administrative arrangements for certain portfolios. The youth affairs function is now under the responsibility of the Family and Community Services. To reflect these changes the new name of Training Talk has been adopted.

It is intended that Training Talk will still provide up-to-date information on the Commonwealth Government’s Training initiatives. It will also still include pathways and career information.
The Second National New Apprenticeships Conference was recently held at the Millennium Hotel in Sydney. Dr Brendan Nelson, Minister for Education, Science and Training, launched the New Apprenticeships Support Services - Discussion Paper for Consultation at the opening of the second National New Apprenticeships Centres Conference in April 2002.

This paper provides an opportunity for input from interested parties on the future direction the Commonwealth might take in purchasing New Apprenticeship Support Services after existing contracts expire on 30 June 2003.

The Discussion Paper seeks views on the mix of services provided, the fee structures, the contractual terms and conditions and how to better use the procurement process to allocate new contracts.

The Discussion Paper for Consultation is available at www.newapprenticeships.gov.au/nass/consultation.asp External Site
