A new research report, funded by the Department of Education, Science and Training and the Australian National Training Authority, highlights the skills that employers think are important for people to gain employment and to progress in the workplace.
The Employability Skills for the Future report, released in May, aims to improve understanding of what makes a good employee and to stimulate further work in employability skills development in Australian education and training.
A feature of the report is an ‘Employability Skills Framework’, which highlights personal attributes and key skills that contribute to employability.

The New Apprenticeships Access Programme (NAAP) has completed its first competitive tender process. The tender was underpinned by revised arrangements for NAAP operations. A focus of the tender was a broader geographical spread with increased service delivery in non-metropolitan areas. Contracts have been executed with 10 brokers, two of whom have previously been involved with NAAP. They will deliver NAAP services from 1 July 2002 for approximately two years.
The revised programme is supported by a comprehensive communication strategy which includes a suite of promotional materials with a new look and feel for NAAP. These materials will be made available to NAAP brokers and providers for use in their local areas. For more information on the New Apprenticeships Access Programme, visit the NAAP web site at
