Enterprise education

What is Enterprise Education? Enterprise education aims to develop in students effective foundation skills and competencies and a capacity for ongoing learning which will assist them to take a pro-active, self-determining and flexible approach to understanding, influencing and shaping their own future. It provides students with experiential learning, so that they have a context for the enterprising skills and attributes developed. Enterprise education is applicable across all areas of the curriculum and it is relevant for all years of schooling, particularly the middle years.

Action Research: The Department of Education, Science and Training is currently undertaking a major Enterprise Education Action Research Project to identify innovative and best practice models. Around 200 schools from across Australia have been chosen to take part. Project Schools began planning in June for the enterprise education models that they will be implementing and researching over the next eighteen months. For more information log on to the DEST website at http://www.dest.gov.au/sectors/school_education/programmes_funding/programme_categories/key_curriculum_priorities/enterprise_and_career_education_programme.htm  or onto the project consultant's website at http://www.erebus.com.au/ .

Resources for Schools: The Commonwealth is providing enterprise education professional development resources for teachers and school leaders. These resources include 3 books and a CD-ROM containing advice, tips, projects and lesson plans for enterprise education in both primary and secondary schools. The resources will have been delivered to all Australian schools in early July 2002.
