New Rural Careers Information

In April 2002 Rural Skills Australia launched ONTRACK, an exciting interactive multimedia package to improve information on and awareness about modern rural career opportunities and training pathways.

The package includes a CD-ROM, print materials, and the ONTRACK web site http://www.ruralskills.com.au/Ontrack/menu.htm .

This careers package was developed through rural industry’s participation in the National Industry Skills Initiative. Careers information products were identified through the Initiative as a key tool to help boost skills levels and attract more people into the industry. Commonwealth funding was then provided to develop the products.

The products aim to portray work and training in the industry in a positive and realistic light. Areas highlighted in the package are agriculture, horticulture, animal care, land and park management, the environment, aquaculture and livestock production. The CD-ROM features people from each area talking enthusiastically about what’s involved in their area of work, their experiences and opportunities for employment and training, and encouraging others to have a go.
